At Healthy Smiles, children are our special angels. We hope to provide children with the understanding of why oral health and prevention dentistry is important.

In an ideal situation, as soon as the baby teeth erupt, we would like you to bring your child for a check-up. We have one simple aim and that is to start as early as possible for your child to be familiar with the dental surroundings as well as educate them on oral growth and start their oral hygiene.

Below, I have listed a few steps to follow to assist you in caring and maintain your child’s oral health.

  • At the appearance of the first teeth, start cleaning the teeth with a soft wet gauze or cloth. Later, you can use a soft toothbrush with a small head. Please note that at this early age, use water only for children under 12 months.
  • When the child reaches the age of one, you can use a little fluoride toothpaste until the child is 3 years old. Please ensure that the child does not swallow the toothpaste.
  • At the age of 4, the child should learn how to brush unaided.
  • To check if there is any plaque remaining on the teeth after brushing, you can use disclosing tablets once in a while. The tablets will colour the plaque which is left after brushing.
  • Like other consistent routines you set for your child, brushing should be on top of the list. The earlier the brushing habits are learnt and enforced, the better the rate of healthy and gums in the years to come.

If you need advice or direction, please ask for help.
