We know that you feel self-conscious while smiling or talking to your friends due to your lost tooth. But you don’t have to feel this way anymore. Because dental implants provide a complete restoration option for your missing teeth.

In this article, we are going to outline different types of dental implants and which one is best for you. But, before that, you need to understand what a dental implant is. So, keep reading.

What is Dental Implant?

A dental implant is created from pure titanium. It is surgically placed within your jawbone beneath the gum line in order to make a permanent foundation for your tooth restoration. Dental implants can be used for different types of tooth damage.

Now that you have a better understanding of a dental implant, let’s go over the different types you will have to select from.

Types of Dental Implants

With each type of dental implant, there are different connectors, coating, and size options that your dentist will choose from. Continue reading to learn more about them.

Endosteal Implants

It is the most common type of dental implant and is safe as well as effective. They are suitable for most patients but require a healthy jawbone for the post to fuse it. Endosteal implants are placeholder posts shaped like a screw (threaded), cylinder (smooth), or bladed. Our dentists will help you determine the best dental implant for you.

  • Treatment–Endosteal implants begin by first drilling into the jawbone in order to insert a titanium screw. The treatment takes a little time to heal because the post requires time to fuse together and create a stronghold. Once it is healed, the false tooth can be placed onto the post to fit in with your surrounding teeth.
  • Stability–This implant is famous for its stability and natural-feeling results.

If you have a narrow or worn down jawbone ridge because of disease or trauma, you might not have enough jawbone to support this implant. In this case, the second most common implant (subperiosteal implant) may be an option.

Subperiosteal Implants

These types of implants are rarely used today, but it is the main alternative to endosteal implants. Instead of being fixed into the jawbone, these dental implants rest on top of the jawbone but are still under the gum.

  • Treatment–With subperiosteal implants, the complete treatment procedure is done in two appointments. For this implant, a metal frame is positioned under the gum with a post attached to it. After the treatment, your gums will take a little time to heal around the frame to hold it in place.
  • Stability–This implant is less stable than a complete endosteal implant because it doesn’t go into the jawbone. Instead it rests on the bone.

A Better Smile Is In Your Future

Not everyone is a good candidate for dental implants because the treatment requires sufficient jawbone density. At Healthy Smiles, our professional and experienced dentists use specialised scanners to generate a 3D image of your jaw. Based on the image, our dentists will help you find out the best dental implant for you.
