Do you have decayed or chipped teeth that need restoration? And have you been intentionally avoiding to see the dentist because of lack of time? Then this blog is for you.

Let us introduce you to CEREC, the new way to get a brand-new smile without spending more time on the dentist’s chair. Read on to know how CEREC, despite its speedy process, doesn’t compromise with the quality of restorations. Let’s see in this blog, what is CEREC and how does the process work.

What is CEREC?

CEREC stands for Chairside Economic Restorations of Esthetic Ceramics or CEramic REConstruction. It is sometimes also called ‘Chairside’ Milled Dental Ceramics. It is the process of constructing dental restorations from ceramics. The most prevalent amongst them are porcelain.

CEREC is most commonly used for dental restorations such as a ceramic crown, inlay or a veneer. The process of CEREC is assisted by CAD/CAM technology which also accounts for its precision.

The Process of CEREC Treatment

After contacting and visiting our expert dentists at Healthy Smiles Dental for the initial consultation, the process of your CEREC treatment can be as follows:

  1. Smart Camera for Investigation: Our dentists use a highly specialised camera attached to a computer to capture several images of your damaged tooth. Using this camera avoids the need for any uncomfortable impression making which might make you retch.
  2. Designing A 3D Model on Computer: The high-quality images are taken to be transformed into a 3D model of the teeth required to be restored. CAD/CAM software uses a library possible shapes to uniquely design your 3D model.

  3. Milling: The 3D model is transferred to a milling unit which precisely mills new restoration from a single ceramic block. It is quite a fast process, lasting only for a few minutes. It is carried out at the dentist’s clinic only and patients are even allowed to see their new dental part being made.
  4. Insertion of The Restoration: The last and final step of the CEREC process is to insert the dental restoration. Since the new part is precise, it can be fixed easily. There hardly remains any possibility of a mismatch.

Benefits of CEREC

  • No use of unpleasant material for impression making.
  • CEREC is stronger as compared to composites because of being prepared from a single block of ceramic.
  • CEREC usually lasts longer than composite or amalgams, as it doesn’t tend to chip off.
  • CEREC restorations are made to look and feel exactly like natural teeth.
  • There is no need for temporary prosthesis, it’s just the final step.
  • The procedure is remarkably faster than other methods.
  • Using ceramics also ensures that there is no gum irritation, unlike metal reconstructions.

Under normal circumstances, the whole process of measuring, designing, milling and fixing a restoration for a single tooth takes less than one hour. It can be as quick as that. Our enthusiastic dentists at Healthy Smiles Dental Group are all eager to save your time using CEREC. Feel free to visit our Blackburn dental clinic, for more consultation.
